Iraq's elections are less than 36 hours away.. I PRAY that these will bring peace. I PRAY that Bush's-claims of "bringing-democracy" will succeed. Bush MUST get SOMETHING right; the "law-of-averages" is in his favor; as he has gotten so-much, so-wrong, for so-long!! The A.F.L.C.I.O. has recently begun airing a radio-spot denouncing Bush's plans to "privatize" parts of Social-Security. In it, they raise an interesting idea... Imagine a future, when Social-Security-pensioners cannot survive on their meager, monthly checks.. They then become an ENORMOUS, DESPERATE, labor-force; willing to take nearly ANY jobs, at ANY wage. They will then be forced to take "minimum-wage" jobs.... such as those as "Greeters at Wal Mart"!!! Besides enriching Bush's-campaign-contributors, such "privatization" will force millions of skilled workers into minimum-wage "service jobs!! We MUST tell our legislators to STOP this corrupt scheme!!! Call or write your Congressman NOW!!!! ..........Dave
Comments:
Dave, I hate to break it to you, but many pensioners can barely survive on their Social Security benefits now. Outside of urban areas, these minimum wage service positions are being filled with our parents and grandparents who have contributed to the Social Security fund their entire lives. They are selling their life-long possesions on garage sales, and if they're savvy enough, ebay. They're forced into welfare; taking food stamps and applying for Medicare benefits. While I wish our parents didn't need this, I would rather they take advantage of these programs than illegal aliens or 20 and 30 soemthings looking for handouts rather than help up. So, in the end, we can fix the symptoms of the system today, or fix the system so our young people are not faced with a problem worse than our parents. Is partial privatization an answer? Perhaps so, perhaps not. Is the current system working? Absolutely not.
